Thinking so much about the female form and working with fabrics reminded me to delve into another sinuous fiber we wear every day - our muscles. I looked at the Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank H. Netter for references on muscles and to observe the structural arrangement of fibers which influenced the Sinuous Blue fabric collage.
The French independent film “Blue is the Warmest Color” directed by Abdellatif Kechiche portrays a young woman named Adele as she discovers her libido through the love and loss she experiences in a gay relationship. The title inspired my use of the color blue as I have justified to be, in actuality, the warmest color we experience and a color of transcendence: the hottest stars in the universe shine blue-white light, the sky is an every changing blue, and water always appears as such in the context of a landscape.
In the first photographic sequence, the sinews draped over a branch within the forest give life to an anthropomorphic form. In the gallery space the fabric stretched from its corners transforms into a dramatic waterfall.
